Turkish Economy to Grow 8-12% in Q2 Says Industry Minister (2010-09-07)

Turkstat, the Turkish Statistical Institute is to release the next set of GDP figures on Turkish Gross Domestic Product this time next week, and according to the country's industry minister growth will be between 8-12% for the second quarter. This follows 11.7% growth in the first quarter, and 6.4% in the final quarter of last year.

"When we look at the whole year in general, Turkish economy will achieve a growth rate of 6 percent or more," Turkish Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said.

Meanwhile Turkish industrial production grew 8.6% year on year in July according to Turkstat. Ergun said that industrial production has been growing since the middle of last year. He also said that industrial production grew 0.3-0.55 on the month as well.

The industrial production figure is more good news for the Turkish economy. All eyes are now on Turkstat for the revelation of GDP figures in 7 days time.

No one (or certainly hardly anyone) is in any doubt over whether or not the economy will have grown in the quarter, because when it comes to Turkey right now you can almost feel the growth.

Ergun also said that Turkey planned to make double assurances over its fiscal stability, which, in tandem with its impressive economic growth, and failure of its EU competitors to come anywhere close to it in any of those categories, is all helping to put Turkey near the top of all investors shortlists.
