Property in Turkey to be Boosted by Tourism (2010-08-12)

Thomas Cook has said that it will focus on selling high-end holidays to Turkey as it drives to improve its fortunes after an abysmal year. When talking about its bad fortunes owing to the ash cloud, and slow economic recovery as well as things like the World Cup and BA Strikes, Thomas Cook spokespersons said that Turkey's popularity with British travellers was strong, because their money went further outside the euro zone.

The firm was recently quoted as saying that Turkey has emerged as a popular destination for U.K. holiday-makers this year as the pound will go further than in neighbouring Greece, part of the euro zone which has always traditionally been one of the most popular destinations for British tourists.

Of course we all know that rising tourism is good news for those involved with property in Turkey, because the Turkish property market is traditionally driven by tourism growth, with most buyers being either holiday home buyers, or holiday home investors.

The latest data from the Turkish tourism ministry and Turkstat shows us that Turkish tourism has grown strongly this year compared to last year, with growth accelerating in the second quarter.

The tourism ministry also showed that Russian tourists were the second biggest market in the first half of the year, a spot usually held by Brits. Now looking at this with the reports of a lull in British holidays abroad, we can see that Russian tourists are obviously making up for this in overall numbers. The fact that visitor numbers from Syria and Iran in the first half of the year were both almost double what they were last year will also be helping the growth in the overall number.
