During the boom Turkey's biggest tourism market was Germany, and Britain was in second place, but during 2010 Russians overtook the British to take second place, knocking Britain into 3rd. However, all reports still point to the dominance of Brits in terms of foreign purchases of Turkey property.
That said the UK has a massive budget deficit and the Conservative/Lib Dem coalition is seemingly taking no prisoners as it drives the country into the same kind of austerity as being seen in many developed nations around the world.
With every indication that the UK economy is to get worse before it gets better, or at least to enjoy sluggish growth in GDP and employment for the foreseeable future, it is likely that markets that buyers from countries enjoying a strong recovery will continue to eat away at the British dominance. So it is likely moves to target these markets will prove to be incredibly prudent. Time will tell.
