"Izmir is set to become one of Turkey's top regions, as foreign companies and bodies join the Turkish and Izmir authorities in investing heavily in the regions development.
The latest news is that Cicom, the company behind the massive French technopark, wants to create a similar endeavour in Izmir, on the on the İzmir Institute of Technology, or İYTE.
Cicom is currently in the final stage of talks with the Aegean Young Businessmen’s Association, or EGİAD, who would undoubtedly look to be partners in the endeavour, and with İYTE Rector Zafer İlken and his legal advisors.
İlken said that they had received proposals from Cicom and would discuss at the September board meeting.
Cicom Executive Cem Ateşler said they were currently continuing talks with Ahmet Oktay, İlken’s attorney and consultant.
“In order for us to start working on the technopark project, we need an allocation document, or it would look like we were selling a house that we do not own," he said. “It looks as though we are going to arrive at a mutual agreement on a version of the document.”
Ateşler also said that he was confident any further problems would not stop the deal from going ahead, he said:
“I think we were convincing in our talks with the legal consultant, and I am thinking positively about the process. In mid-September at the latest, we will finalize the procedure in one way or another and the fundamental agreement document will be shaped."
The news comes just weeks after the grand opening of the 13 million euro Çeşme Marina, and announcement from Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yıldırım that 400 million Liras would be invested in expanding Izmir's marina capacity. All this is set to make Izmir one of the top regions with overseas buyers of property in Turkey.
