British tourism to Turkey grew 10% in 2010 (2011-03-31)

According to the latest data from the culture and tourism ministry, British tourism to Turkey grew 10% in 2010 compared to 2009. This took the total number of Brits visiting the country to 2.67 million last year, not far shy of the 3 million target set to make Britain joint with Germany as the biggest tourism markets. According to the ministry spokesperson Brits are continually drawn back by the value for money.

This continued tourism growth is constantly boosting the property market, as increased potential for strong rental occupancy takes away another layer of uncertainty and hesitancy for anyone considering a holiday home.

Spanish tourism continues to slowly erode. Many say that Turkey will never beat Spain with Brits, because there are dozens of cheap flights from Britain to Turkey each week, while flights to Turkey are still comparatively less, and often more expensive. But this is becoming harder and harder to swallow; flights to Turkey continue to increase, as do cheap flights, and the savings in other areas with the pound and euro at near parity more than covers the saving on flights in most cases.

The figures speak for themselves, the number of British tourists to Turkey has been increasing year in year out for the last 5 years or more, while British tourism to Spain has been stagnant or even falling during this time.

More tourists means more holiday home buyers, especially where British visitors are concerned, and this is generating massive increases in demand for property in Turkey.
